====== Overview ====== This conference is being sponsored by The Northern California New Media Center and the Multimedia and Entertainment Initiative (MEI) with support from Shasta College and the Shasta College Foundation. This is a FREE event. The actual content of the conference is still being finalized. I encourage our conference speakers/presenters to check back from time to time to see how the program is shaping up. Look at the [[SUWSM - Program]] to see. You may click on the "edit button," add comments or post helpful links, and then click on "save." This is a work in progress, and we'll let you know when the official, finalized version is set. Until then, use the wiki to tweak your content. ===== Theme - Step Up With Social Media===== ===Shasta College - 4/24/2010=== ==== Goal ==== The goal of the 2010 Conference is to bring together writers/artists, educators, media professionals and business people to explore the uses of social media. I am hoping that tho conference will explore some of the topics below. I am open to additional themes, including any existing presentations, so long as they fit under the general concepts of social media and interacting with audiences. This conference is underwritten by both the MEI and Shasta College. The MEI typically emphasizes visual media, but I believe it is important to address the role that writing, planning and collaboration has in this process. I'd love to hear some ideas and helpful suggestions. And a confession... I did break into my thesaurus to come up with "cark": "To disturb the peace of mind or to afflict with mental agitation and distress" - a synonym for "distraction." Yet it also can mean "to move deeply." One of the most consistent comments I get, when I tell people that I'm looking at how to use Facebook to help me teach and write is: "Who has the time for a distraction like that?" So, is Facebook anything more than just a distraction? I'd like to hear how you all use it - or don't - for your professional, artistic, business or prosocial behavior.
